I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "There is no amputation for stealing fruit or the pith of the palm tree."
[Sahih] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Punishments, chapter on what does not require amputation, no. 4388, from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed Ansari through this route. It is also found in Kubra, no. 7449. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1505, as did Ibn Jarud, no. 826. Ibn Jarud and others added Wasi bin Habban to the chain, which is an instance of what is termed "additions in connected chains" (al-mazid fi muttasil al-asanid).
