Safwan was sleeping in the mosque with his cloak under him when it was stolen. He got up, but the man had already gone. He caught up with him, seized him, and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, who ordered that the thief's hand be cut off.Safwan said, "Messenger of Allah, my cloak is not worth a man's hand being cut off for it."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Why did you not say this before bringing him to me?"Abu Abdul-Rahman said, Ashath is weak.

[Sahih] Darimi narrated it, no. 2304, from the hadith of Ashath bin Sawwar with this wording, and it is also in Kubra, no. 7368, and the preceding hadith serves as a corroborating witness for it.
