The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever has someone killed has the choice between two options. Either the killer is executed in retaliation, or a ransom is paid."
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن أشعث قال حدثنا أبو مسهر قال حدثنا إسمعيل وهو ابن عبد الله بن سماعة قال أنبأنا الأوزاعي قال أخبرني يحيى قال حدثني أبو سلمة قال حدثني
قال رسول الله ﷺ من قتل له قتيل فهو بخير النظرين إما أن يقاد وإما أن يفدى
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Lost Property, chapter "How is lost property of the people of Makkah to be described?" hadith 2434, and Muslim in the Book of Hajj, chapter on the prohibition of Makkah, its game, its vegetation, its trees, and its lost property, etc., hadith 1355, from the hadith of Uzai through this same chain. It is also in Al-Kubra, hadith 6987.Yahya is Ibn Abu Kathir.
