Aisha intended to buy Barirah in order to set her free, but the sellers stipulated that the right of guardianship over her would remain with them. She mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Buy her and free her, for the right of guardianship belongs to the one who frees the slave."Some meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and it was said, "This was given as charity to Barirah."He replied, "It is charity for her, but a gift for us."And she was given the choice.

أنها أرادت أن تشتري بريرة للعتق وأنهم اشترطوا ولاءها فذكرت ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ اشتريها فأعتقيها فإن الولاء لمن أعتق وأتي رسول الله ﷺ بلحم فقيل هذا تصدق به على بريرة فقال هو لها صدقة ولنا هدية وخيرت
