The Prophet ﷺ came to us in Medina while we were engaged in this kind of trade. He said, "Whatever is hand to hand is fine, but whatever is on credit is usury."Then he said to me, "Go to Zayd bin Arqam."So I went to him and asked him, and he said the same thing.
أخبرنا محمد بن منصور عن سفيان عن عمرو عن أبي المنهال قال باع شريك لي ورقا بنسيئة فجاءني فأخبرني فقلت هذا لا يصلح فقال قد والله بعته في السوق وما عابه علي أحد فأتيت
قدم علينا النبي ﷺ المدينة ونحن نبيع هذا البيع فقال ما كان يدا بيد فلا بأس وما كان نسيئة فهو ربا ثم قال لي ائت زيد بن أرقم فأتيته فسألته فقال مثل ذلك
Muslim narrated it, Musaqat, chapter on the prohibition of selling silver for gold on credit, no. 1589, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, and Bukhari, Sales, chapter on trading in cloth and other goods, no. 2061, from the hadith of Amr bin Dinar, with the same wording. It is also in Al-Kubra, no. 6167.
