The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not take any living creature as a target."
أخبرنا سويد بن نصر قال أنبأنا عبد الله عن شعبة عن عدي بن ثابت عن سعيد بن جبير
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال لا تتخذوا شيئا فيه الروح غرضا
Bukhari transmitted it in the Book of Slaughtered Animals and Game, Chapter on What Is Disliked of Mutilation, Tethering an Animal for Target Practice, and Confining It While Shooting, hadith no. 5515, as a suspended narration, and Muslim transmitted it in the Book of Game and Slaughtered Animals, Chapter on the Prohibition of Tethering Animals, hadith no. 1957, from the hadith of Shuba, through this same chain. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 4532.
