The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him sheep to distribute among his companions, but a young goat remained. He mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Sacrifice it yourself."
أخبرنا قتيبة قال حدثنا الليث عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب عن أبي الخير
أن رسول الله ﷺ أعطاه غنما يقسمها على صحابته فبقي عتود فذكره لرسول الله ﷺ فقال ضح به أنت
Bukhari narrated it in "Partnership," in the chapter on the division of sheep and being fair in it, hadith no. 2500, and Muslim narrated it in "Sacrifices," in the chapter on the age of the udhiya, hadith no. 1965, from Qutayba, with this wording. It is also found in Kubra, hadith no. 4469.
