The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to examine the eye and ear carefully, and not to sacrifice an animal whose ear has been cut from the front, or from the back, or one whose ear has been split lengthwise, or one whose ear has been pierced with a hole.

أمرنا رسول الله ﷺ أن نستشرف العين والأذن وأن لا نضحي بمقابلة ولا مدابرة ولا بتراء ولا خرقاء
Sourcing, hasan.Abu Dawud narrated it in "Sacrifices," chapter on what is disliked in sacrificial animals, hadith 2804, from the hadith of Abu Ishaq Sabi with this wording. He heard it from Ibn Ashwa, from Shurayh, with this wording, in the narration of Qays bin Rabi (Mustadrak).This hadith has a hasan corroborating witness that will come, hadith 4381.Tirmidhi said, hadith 1498, hasan sahih. It is also found in Kubra, hadith 4462.Hakim graded it sahih, 4/224, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
