I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the featherless arrow, and he said, "If it strikes with its sharp edge, then eat what it kills, but if it strikes with its broad side and kills the prey, then it is considered as having been beaten to death, so do not eat it."
أخبرنا عمرو بن علي قال حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة قال حدثنا عبد الله بن أبي السفر عن الشعبي قال سمعت
سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن المعراض فقال إذا أصاب بحده فكل وإذا أصاب بعرضه فقتل فإنه وقيذ فلا تأكل
Muslim narrated it in Hunting and Slaughtered Animals, Chapter: Hunting with trained dogs and with arrows, no: 3/1929, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Jafar Ghundar, through him. Bukhari narrated it in Sales, Chapter: Explanation of ambiguous matters, no: 2054, from the hadith of Shubah, through him. It is also in Kubra, no: 4818.
