Adi bin Hatim reported,
I said, "Messenger of Allah, I send my dog and it catches game, but I find nothing with which to slaughter it. May I slaughter it with a sharp stone or a stick?"He replied, "Spill the blood with whatever you wish and mention the name of Allah."

قلت يا رسول الله أرسل كلبي فيأخذ الصيد ولا أجد ما أذكيه به فأذكيه بالمروة والعصا قال أهرق الدم بما شئت واذكر اسم الله عز وجل
[Its isnad is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Sacrifices, Chapter on Slaughtering with Marwa, no. 2824, from the hadith of Simak bin Harb, through this route. It is also in Kubra, no. 4816. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, as did Hakim, who said it meets the criteria of Muslim, 4/240, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Shubah and Thawri also narrated it from Simak, through this route.
