I said, "Messenger of Allah, we are people who hunt. One of us shoots at game and it disappears from him for a night or two, then he tracks it and finds it dead with his arrow in it."He said, "If you find your arrow in it and find no trace of a wild beast on it, and you know that your arrow killed it, then eat it."
أخبرنا زياد بن أيوب قال حدثنا هشيم قال أنبأنا أبو بشر عن سعيد بن جبير
قلت يا رسول الله إنا أهل الصيد وإن أحدنا يرمي الصيد فيغيب عنه الليلة والليلتين فيبتغي الأثر فيجده ميتا وسهمه فيه قال إذا وجدت السهم فيه ولم تجد فيه أثر سبع وعلمت أن سهمك قتله فكل
[Sahih]. Tirmidhi transmitted it, Hunting, chapter on a man who shoots game and it disappears from his sight, no. 1468, from the hadith of Abu Bishr Jafar bin Abu Wahshiya, and he said, hasan sahih. It is also in Al-Kubra, no. 4812, and it has corroborating narrations, among them the preceding hadith.
