He was our neighbor, a close associate, and a resident with us at al-Nahrayn. He asked the Prophet ﷺ, "I send out my dog, then I find another dog with mine that has caught the game, and I do not know which of them caught it."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Do not eat it, for you only pronounced the name of Allah over your own dog and not over the other." And he said something similar regarding other cases like this.
أخبرنا أحمد بن عبد الله بن الحكم قال حدثنا محمد وهو ابن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة عن سعيد بن مسروق قال حدثنا الشعبي
وكان لنا جارا ودخيلا وربيطا بالنهرين أنه سأل النبي ﷺ قال أرسل كلبي فأجد مع كلبي كلبا قد أخذ لا أدري أيهما أخذ قال لا تأكل فإنما سميت على كلبك ولم تسم على غيرهم بمثل ذلك
