I said, "Messenger of Allah, we live in a land where there is much game. I hunt with my bow, with my trained dog, and with my untrained dog. What should I do?"He replied, "Whatever you catch with your bow, mention the name of Allah over it and eat. Whatever you catch with your trained dog, mention the name of Allah and eat. And whatever you catch with your untrained dog, if you reach it in time to slaughter it properly, then eat."

قلت يا رسول الله إنا بأرض صيد أصيد بقوسي وأصيد بكلبي المعلم وبكلبي الذي ليس بمعلم فقال ما أصبت بقوسك فاذكر اسم الله عليه وكل وما أصبت بكلبك المعلم فاذكر اسم الله وكل وما أصبت بكلبك الذي ليس بمعلم فأدركت ذكاته فكل
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Slaughtered Animals and Game, chapter on what has been said about hunting, hadith no. 5488, and Muslim reported it in the Book of Hunting and Slaughtered Animals, chapter on hunting with trained dogs and shooting, hadith no. 1930, from the hadith of Ibn Mubarak with this same chain. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 4777.
