A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have come to pledge allegiance to you for emigration, and I have left my parents weeping."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Go back to them and make them laugh just as you made them weep."
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in jihad, the chapter on a man who goes to fight while his parents are unwilling, hadith no. 2528, and Ibn Majah, hadith no. 2782, from the hadith of Ata bin Saaib, by this route. Shubah, Thawri, and others also narrated it from him, by this route, and it is found in al-Kubra, hadith no. 7786. Ibn Hibban, Hakim, and Dhahabi graded it sahih, and it has other supporting routes, so the hadith is sahih.
