A group of Arabs came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and embraced Islam. They then fell ill, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent them out to where the milch-camels were kept so they could drink their milk. They stayed there, but then they turned on the shepherd, who was a servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, killed him, and drove off the camels.It is reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, make thirsty tonight whoever has made the family of Muhammad thirsty." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent men in pursuit of them, and they were captured. Their hands and feet were cut off, and their eyes were gouged out.The narrators differ in the wording, some adding details beyond others, except that Muawiya said in this report that they drove the camels off toward the land of polytheism.
أخبرنا أحمد بن عمرو بن السرح قال أنبأنا ابن وهب قال وأخبرني يحيى بن أيوب ومعاوية بن صالح عن يحيى بن سعيد
قدم ناس من العرب على رسول الله ﷺ فأسلموا ثم مرضوا فبعث بهم رسول الله ﷺ إلى لقاح ليشربوا من ألبانها فكانوا فيها ثم عمدوا إلى الراعي غلام رسول الله ﷺ فقتلوه واستاقوا اللقاح فزعموا أن رسول الله ﷺ قال اللهم عطش من عطش آل محمد الليلة فبعث رسول الله ﷺ في طلبهم فأخذوا فقطع أيديهم وأرجلهم وسمل أعينهم وبعضهم يزيد على بعض إلا أن معاوية قال في هذا الحديث استاقوا إلى أرض الشرك
