I came to the Prophet ﷺ with two men from the Asharis, one on my right and the other on my left. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was using a tooth-stick at the time. Both of them asked to be appointed to a position.I said, "By the One who sent you with the truth as a Prophet, they did not inform me of what was in their hearts, and I had no idea they were seeking a position."It is as though I can still see his tooth-stick beneath his lip, which had drawn back. He said, "We do not, or will not, employ in any position someone who seeks it. But you go." So he sent him to Yemen, then he sent Muaz bin Jabal to follow him.
