He related that Ibn Umar used to lease out his land in exchange for a portion of what it produced. Then word reached him that Rafi bin Khadij was forbidding this practice, saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had prohibited it.Ibn Umar said, "We used to lease out land before we knew Rafi." Then something stirred within him, so he placed his hand on my shoulder and we walked together until we reached Rafi.Abdullah said to him, "Did you hear the Prophet ﷺ prohibit the leasing of land?"Rafi replied, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'Do not lease out land for anything.'"
أخبرنا هشام بن عمار قال حدثنا يحيى بن حمزة قال حدثنا الأوزاعي قال حدثني حفص بن عنان
أنه حدثه قال كان ابن عمر يكري أرضه ببعض ما يخرج منها فبلغه أن رافع بن خديج يزجر عن ذلك وقال نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن ذلك قال كنا نكري الأرض قبل أن نعرف رافعا ثم وجد في نفسه فوضع يده على منكبي حتى دفعنا إلى رافع فقال له عبد الله أسمعت النبي ﷺ نهى عن كراء الأرض فقال رافع سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول لا تكروا الأرض بشيء
