Some people had surplus land which they used to lease out for a half, a third, or a quarter of its produce. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever has land should cultivate it himself, or let someone else cultivate it, or hold on to it."Matar bin Tahman concurred with him.
أخبرنا هشام بن عمار عن يحيى بن حمزة قال حدثنا الأوزاعي عن عطاء
كان لأناس فضول أرضين يكرونها بالنصف والثلث والربع فقال رسول الله ﷺ من كانت له أرض فليزرعها أو يزرعها أو يمسكها وافقه مطر بن طهمان
