The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The expiation for an unfulfilled vow is the same as the expiation for breaking an oath."
أخبرنا أحمد بن يحيى بن الوزير بن سليمان والحارث بن مسكين قراءة عليه وأنا أسمع عن ابن وهب قال أخبرني عمرو بن الحارث عن كعب بن علقمة عن عبد الرحمن بن شماسة

[Its isnad is sahih] It is found in Kubra, hadith no. 4773. There is another route for it in Muslim, Vows, chapter on the expiation of a vow, hadith no. 1645, from Kaab bin Alqama, from Abdul-Rahman bin Sahammasa, from Abu Khayr Marthad bin Abdullah, from Uqbah, with this same wording.
