The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of you are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them, then those who follow them." I am not sure whether he mentioned two generations or three after his own.Then he mentioned a people who betray and cannot be trusted, who give testimony without being asked to do so, who make vows but do not fulfill them, and among whom obesity becomes widespread.Abu Abdul-Rahman said, this is Nasr bin Imran, Abu Jamra.
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الأعلى قال حدثنا خالد قال حدثنا شعبة عن أبي جمرة عن زهدم قال سمعت
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال خيركم قرني ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم فلا أدري أذكر مرتين بعده أو ثلاثا ثم ذكر قوما يخونون ولا يؤتمنون ويشهدون ولا يستشهدون وينذرون ولا يوفون ويظهر فيهم السمن قال أبو عبد الرحمن هذا نصر بن عمران أبو جمرة
Takhrij (source reference): Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Testimonies, in the chapter "A person should not bear witness to an unjust testimony when asked to testify," hadith no. 2651, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions, in the chapter "The virtue of the Companions, then those who follow them, then those who follow them," hadith no. 2535, from the hadith of Shubah with this wording. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 4751.
