The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We are not to be likened to the worst example. The one who takes back his gift is like the one who returns to his vomit."
أخبرنا محمد بن العلاء قال حدثنا أبو خالد وهو سليمان بن حيان عن سعيد بن أبي عروبة عن أيوب عن عكرمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ ليس لنا مثل السوء العائد في هبته كالعائد في قيئه
Bukhari narrated it in "The Book of Gifts," chapter "It Is Not Permissible for Anyone to Take Back His Gift or Charity," no. 2622, from the hadith of Ayub Sakhtiyani, with this wording. It is also found in Kubra, no. 6528.
