He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "My mother has died, and she had an unfulfilled vow upon her. Will it suffice for her if I free a slave on her behalf?"He replied, "Free a slave on behalf of your mother."
أخبرني هارون بن عبد الله قال حدثنا عفان قال حدثنا سليمان بن كثير عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله عن ابن عباس
أنه أتى النبي ﷺ فقال إن أمي ماتت وعليها نذر أفيجزئ عنها أن أعتق عنها قال أعتق عن أمك
[Sahih] Tabarani transmitted it in Al-Kabir 18/6, no. 5368, from the hadith of Sulayman bin Kathir through this route, and it is also in Al-Kubra, no. 6483. The hadith has very many corroborating witnesses in Bukhari, no. 2761, and Muslim, no. 1638, and others besides them.
