If only people would reduce it to a quarter, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A third, and a third is much," or "is a lot."
أخبرنا قتيبة بن سعيد قال حدثنا سفيان عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
لو غض الناس إلى الربع لأن رسول الله ﷺ قال الثلث والثلث كثير أو كبير
Bukhari narrated it in Wills, chapter on bequeathing a third, no. 2743, from Qutayba, and Muslim in Wills, chapter on bequeathing a third, no. 1629, from the hadith of Hisham through the same route, and it is in Kubra, no. 6461.
