The Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who frees a slave or gives charity at the time of his death is like one who offers a gift only after he has eaten his fill."
أخبرنا محمد بن بشار قال حدثنا محمد قال حدثنا شعبة قال سمعت أبا إسحق سمع أبا حبيبة الطائي قال أوصى رجل بدنانير في سبيل الله فسئل
عن النبي ﷺ قال مثل الذي يعتق أو يتصدق عند موته مثل الذي يهدي بعدما يشبع
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Reported by Abu Dawud, Emancipation, Chapter on the Virtue of Emancipation in Good Health, no. 3968, and Tirmidhi, no. 2123, from the hadith of Abu Ishaq through the same chain, and it is also in Kubra, no. 6441. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1219, as did Hakim, 2/213, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Hafiz graded it hasan in Fath al-Bari, 5/374.Abu Habibah's hadith is hasan according to the more correct view.
