The Messenger of Allah ﷺ held a race between horses that had been trained for racing, starting from al-Hafya, with the finish line at Thaniyyat al-Wada. He also held a race between horses that had not been trained, from the Thaniyya to the mosque of Banu Zurayq. Abdullah was among those who took part in the race.
أخبرنا محمد بن سلمة والحارث بن مسكين قراءة عليه وأنا أسمع عن ابن القاسم قال حدثني مالك عن نافع
أن رسول الله ﷺ سابق بين الخيل التي قد أضمرت من الحفياء وكان أمدها ثنية الوداع وسابق بين الخيل التي لم تضمر من الثنية إلى مسجد بني زريق وأن عبد الله كان ممن سابق بها
Bukhari narrated it, Prayer, chapter "Is it said, masjid of the sons of so-and-so?", no. 420, and Muslim, Commanding, chapter on racing horses and preparing them for racing, no. 1870, from the hadith of Malik, through him. It is also in Muwatta (Yahya), 22/467, 468, and Kubra, no. 4424.
