I was sitting among a group of people in Kufa, in a large gathering of the Ansar, and among them was Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla. They began discussing the case of Sabia, so I mentioned what Abdullah bin Utba bin Masud had said, along the lines of what Ibn Awn said, that her waiting period ends when she gives birth.Ibn Abu Layla said, "But his uncle does not say that."I raised my voice and said, "Would I really dare to lie about Abdullah bin Utba when he is right here in a part of Kufa?"He said, I then met Malik and asked him, "What did Ibn Masud used to say about the case of Sabia?"Malik replied, "He said, 'Are you imposing the stricter ruling on her and denying her the concession? The shorter Surah of an-Nisa was revealed after the longer one.'"
