He embraced Islam, but his wife refused to accept Islam. Their young son, who had not yet reached puberty, came forward. The Prophet ﷺ seated the father on one side and the mother on the other, then gave the boy the choice between them. He prayed, "Allah, guide him." The boy then went to his father.
أخبرنا محمود بن غيلان قال حدثنا عبد الرزاق قال حدثنا سفيان عن عثمان البتي
أنه أسلم وأبت امرأته أن تسلم فجاء ابن لهما صغير لم يبلغ الحلم فأجلس النبي ﷺ الأب ها هنا والأم ها هنا ثم خيره فقال اللهم اهده فذهب إلى أبيه
[Hasan] Ibn Majah reported it in Ahkam, chapter on giving the child the choice between his parents, hadith no. 2352, from the hadith of Uthman Al-Batti, through him. It is also found in Kubra, hadith no. 5689. Hakim graded it sahih in 2/206–207, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
