Zayd bin Arqam reported,

I was with the Prophet ﷺ at a time when Ali was in Yemen. A man came to him and said, "I witnessed Ali when three men were brought before him, each claiming a woman's child as his own.Ali said to one of them, "Will you leave the child to this man?" He refused.Then he said to the second, "Will you leave him to this man?" He refused as well.Then he said to the third, "Will you leave him to this man?" He too refused.So Ali said, "You are quarrelsome partners. I will draw lots between you. Whichever of you the lot falls to, the child is his, and he owes the other two two-thirds of the blood money."At this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed until his back teeth showed.Abu Abdul-Rahman said, this is correct, and Allah knows best.

أخبرنا محمد بن بشار قال حدثنا محمد قال حدثنا شعبة عن سلمة بن كهيل قال سمعت الشعبي يحدث عن أبي الخليل أو ابن أبي الخليل أن ثلاثة نفر اشتركوا في طهر فذكر نحوه ولم يذكر زيد بن أرقم ولم يرفعه قال أبو عبد الرحمن هذا صواب والله سبحانه وتعالى أعلم
