While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man from Yemen came and began informing and reporting to him, while Ali was there. He said, "Messenger of Allah, three men came to Ali disputing over a child. They had all lain with a woman during a single period of purity." And he continued the narration.
أخبرنا علي بن حجر قال حدثنا علي بن مسهر عن الأجلح عن الشعبي قال أخبرني عبد الله بن أبي الخليل الحضرمي
بينا نحن عند رسول الله ﷺ إذ جاءه رجل من اليمن فجعل يخبره ويحدثه وعلي بها فقال يا رسول الله أتى عليا ثلاثة نفر يختصمون في ولد وقعوا على امرأة في طهر وساق الحديث

[Its chain is daif] Abu Dawud (no. 2269, see the previous hadith) narrated it from the hadith of Ajlah with this wording, and the majority graded it daif, as I have established in my sourcing of Musnad Humaydi (no. 785). The hadith is also in Kubra (no. 5683), and Hakim graded it sahih (3/135, 136). The hadith has various routes, all of them daif.
