Regarding a man who married a woman, then died before consummating the marriage and without having specified a dowry for her, Ali ruled that she was entitled to the dowry, was required to observe the waiting period, and was entitled to inherit.Maqil bin Sinan said, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ give this very ruling in the case of Birwa bint Washiq."

في رجل تزوج امرأة فمات ولم يدخل بها ولم يفرض لها قال لها الصداق وعليها العدة ولها الميراث فقال معقل بن سنان فقد سمعت النبي ﷺ قضى به في بروع بنت واشق
[Sahih] Abu Dawud narrated it, no. 2114, from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi with this chain (see the two preceding hadiths), and it is also in Kubra, no. 5517. Sufyan here is Thawri.
