I was among the people sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when a woman stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, she has offered herself to you, so consider what you think of her."The Prophet ﷺ remained silent and gave her no reply. Then she stood again and said, "Messenger of Allah, she has offered herself to you, so consider what you think of her."A man stood up and said, "Marry her to me, Messenger of Allah."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you have anything?"The man replied, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Go and search for something, even an iron ring."So he went and searched, then came back and said, "I found nothing, not even an iron ring."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you know anything of the Quran?"He answered, "Yes, I know such-and-such surah and such-and-such surah."The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have married her to you for what you know of the Quran."
أخبرنا محمد بن منصور عن سفيان قال سمعت أبا حازم يقول سمعت
إني لفي القوم عند النبي ﷺ فقامت امرأة فقالت يا رسول الله إنها قد وهبت نفسها لك فرأ فيها رأيك فسكت فلم يجبها النبي ﷺ بشيء ثم قامت فقال يا رسول الله إنها قد وهبت نفسها لك فرأ فيها رأيك فقام رجل فقال زوجنيها يا رسول الله قال هل معك شيء قال لا قال اذهب فاطلب ولو خاتما من حديد فذهب فطلب ثم جاء فقال لم أجد شيئا ولا خاتما من حديد قال هل معك من القرآن شيء قال نعم معي سورة كذا وسورة كذا قال قد أنكحتكها على ما معك من القرآن
