My husband divorced me three times, and he used to send me food that had something objectionable in it. I said, "By Allah, if I am entitled to maintenance and lodging, I will demand them, and I will not accept this."His agent replied, "You are not entitled to lodging or maintenance."She said, So I came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned this to him.He said, "You are not entitled to lodging or maintenance. Spend your waiting period at the home of so-and-so."She said, But his companions used to visit her there, so he then said, "Spend your waiting period at the home of Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind. When your waiting period is complete, inform me."She said, When my waiting period ended, I informed him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Who has proposed to you?"I said, "Muawiya and another man from Quraysh."The Prophet ﷺ said, "As for Muawiya, he is a young man from among the youths of Quraysh with no wealth. As for the other, he is a man of evil with no good in him. Rather, marry Usama bin Zayd."She said, I disliked the idea, but he repeated it to her three times, so she married him.
أخبرني حاجب بن سليمان قال حدثنا حجاج قال حدثنا ابن أبي ذئب عن الزهري ويزيد بن عبد الله بن قسيط عن أبي سلمة بن عبد الرحمن وعن الحارث بن عبد الرحمن عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن ثوبان
طلقني زوجي ثلاثا فكان يرزقني طعاما فيه شيء فقلت والله لئن كانت لي النفقة والسكنى لأطلبنها ولا أقبل هذا فقال الوكيل ليس لك سكنى ولا نفقة قالت فأتيت النبي ﷺ فذكرت ذلك له فقال ليس لك سكنى ولا نفقة فاعتدي عند فلانة قالت وكان يأتيها أصحابه ثم قال اعتدي عند ابن أم مكتوم فإنه أعمى فإذا حللت فآذنيني قالت فلما حللت آذنته فقال رسول الله ﷺ ومن خطبك فقلت معاوية ورجل آخر من قريش فقال النبي ﷺ أما معاوية فإنه غلام من غلمان قريش لا شيء له وأما الآخر فإنه صاحب شر لا خير فيه ولكن انكحي أسامة بن زيد قالت فكرهته فقال لها ذلك ثلاث مرات فنكحته
