Fatimah bint Qays reported,

She was among the first of the women to emigrate. She said, Abdul-Rahman bin Awf proposed to me along with a group of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proposed to me on behalf of his freed slave Usama bin Zayd. I had been told that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever loves me, let him love Usama."So when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke to me, I said, "My affair is in your hands, marry me to whomever you wish."He said, "Go to Umm Sharik." Umm Sharik was a wealthy woman of the Ansar who spent generously in the cause of Allah and hosted many guests.I said, "I will do so."He said, "Do not do that, for Umm Sharik has many guests, and I would not like your head covering to fall off or your garment to slip from your legs, exposing to people something of you that you would dislike. Rather, move to your cousin Abdullah bin Amr bin Umm Maktum," who was a man from Banu Fihr. So I moved to his house. Abridged.

وكانت من المهاجرات الأول قالت خطبني عبد الرحمن بن عوف في نفر من أصحاب محمد ﷺ وخطبني رسول الله ﷺ على مولاه أسامة بن زيد وقد كنت حدثت أن رسول الله ﷺ قال من أحبني فليحب أسامة فلما كلمني رسول الله ﷺ قلت أمري بيدك فانكحني من شئت فقال انطلقي إلى أم شريك وأم شريك امرأة غنية من الأنصار عظيمة النفقة في سبيل الله عز وجل ينزل عليها الضيفان فقلت سأفعل قال لا تفعلي فإن أم شريك كثيرة الضيفان فإني أكره أن يسقط عنك خمارك أو ينكشف الثوب عن ساقيك فيرى القوم منك بعض ما تكرهين ولكن انتقلي إلى ابن عمك عبد الله بن عمرو بن أم مكتوم وهو رجل من بني فهر فانتقلت إليه مختصر
