I asked for a woman's hand in marriage during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Have you looked at her?"I said, "No."He said, "Then look at her, for it is more likely to bring lasting harmony between you."
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد العزيز بن أبي رزمة قال حدثنا حفص بن غياث قال حدثنا عاصم عن بكر بن عبد الله المزني
خطبت امرأة على عهد رسول الله ﷺ فقال النبي ﷺ أنظرت إليها قلت لا قال فانظر إليها فإنه أجدر أن يؤدم بينكما
[Its isnad is sahih] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Marriage, chapter on what has been said about looking at the woman being proposed to, no. 1087, from the hadith of Asim bin Sulayman Ahwal, with the same wording, and he said, "Hasan," and Busiri graded it sahih, as did Ibn Majah, no. 1866, and it is in Sunan al-Kubra, no. 5346.
