When the Prophet ﷺ ordered the digging of the trench, a rock blocked their path and stopped them from digging. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up, took the pickaxe, placed his cloak to the side of the trench, and said, "The word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice. None can change His words, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." A third of the rock broke off. Salman Farsi was standing there watching, and a flash of light came forth with the strike of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Then he struck a second time and said, "The word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice. None can change His words, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." Another third broke off, and a flash of light came forth which Salman saw. Then he struck a third time and said, "The word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice. None can change His words, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." The remaining third broke off. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then came out, took his cloak, and sat down.Salman said, "Messenger of Allah, I watched you as you struck, and with each blow there was a flash of light."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Salman, did you see that?"He replied, "Yes, by the One who sent you with the truth, Messenger of Allah."He said, "When I struck the first blow, the cities of Khosrow and what surrounds them, and many other cities, were raised up for me until I saw them with my own eyes."Those of his companions present said, "Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to grant us victory over them, to give us their lands as spoils, and to destroy their lands at our hands." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated for that."Then I struck the second blow, and the cities of Caesar and what surrounds them were raised up for me until I saw them with my own eyes."They said, "Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to grant us victory over them, to give us their lands as spoils, and to destroy their lands at our hands." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated for that."Then I struck the third blow, and the cities of Abyssinia and the villages around them were raised up for me until I saw them with my own eyes."At that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave the Abyssinians alone as long as they leave you alone, and leave the Turks alone as long as they leave you alone."
[Its chain is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Battles, chapter on the prohibition against provoking the Turks and the Abyssinians, hadith no. 4302, from the hadith of Damra bin Rabia, with the same wording, and it is also in Kubra, hadith no. 4385.Abu Zura is Yahya bin Abu Amr, and Abu Sakina's companionship is disputed, so his hadith does not fall below the level of hasan. The hadith also has a hasan corroborating narration, see Nayl Maqsud, hadith no. 4309, may Allah make its printing easy for us.
