The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The martyrs and those who died on their beds will dispute before our Lord concerning those who died of the plague. The martyrs will say, 'Our brothers were killed as we were killed.' Those who died on their beds will say, 'Our brothers died on their beds as we died.' Our Lord will say, 'Look at their wounds. If their wounds resemble the wounds of those who were killed, then they are among them and with them.' And behold, their wounds resembled theirs."
أخبرني عمرو بن عثمان قال حدثنا بقية قال حدثنا بحير عن خالد عن ابن أبي بلال
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال يختصم الشهداء والمتوفون على فرشهم إلى ربنا في الذين يتوفون من الطاعون فيقول الشهداء إخواننا قتلوا كما قتلنا ويقول المتوفون على فرشهم إخواننا ماتوا على فرشهم كما متنا فيقول ربنا انظروا إلى جراحهم فإن أشبه جراحهم جراح المقتولين فإنهم منهم ومعهم فإذا جراحهم قد أشبهت جراحهم
Source references, hasan.Tabarani narrated it in Kabir (18/250, no. 626) from the hadith of Baqiyyah with the same chain, and Ismail bin Ayyash corroborated him (Ahmad, 4/128, 129). It is also found in Kubra, no. 4372, and the preceding hadith serves as a corroborating witness for it in meaning.Buhayr is Ibn Saad, and Khalid is Ibn Madan. Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Hilal was deemed reliable by Ibn Hibban, and Tirmidhi graded his hadith hasan, so his hadith is hasan (Nayl Maqsud, no. 5057).
