I became sexually impure while I was out with the camels and could not find any water, so I rolled in the dust the way an animal rolls. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him about it.He said, "Tayammum would have been sufficient for you."
أخبرنا محمد بن عبيد بن محمد قال حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن أبي إسحق عن ناجية بن خفاف
أجنبت وأنا في الإبل فلم أجد ماء فتمعكت في التراب تمعك الدابة فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ فأخبرته بذلك فقال إنما كان يجزيك من ذلك التيمم

Sahih. Reported by Ahmad, 4/263, and Humaydi, no. 145, from the hadith of Abu Ishaq. Abu Ishaq is using an'ana (a formula of indirect narration), no. 96, and the hadith is in Kubra, no. 309, and it has many corroborating narrations in Bukhari and Muslim and others.
