I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "No raiding party goes out to fight in the cause of Allah and gains spoils except that they receive two-thirds of their reward in advance from the Hereafter, with one-third remaining for them. But if they gain no spoils, their reward is complete."
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن يزيد قال حدثنا أبي قال حدثنا حيوة وذكر آخر قالا حدثنا أبو هانئ الخولاني أنه سمع أبا عبد الرحمن الحبلي يقول سمعت
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ما من غازية تغزو في سبيل الله فيصيبون غنيمة إلا تعجلوا ثلثي أجرهم من الآخرة ويبقى لهم الثلث فإن لم يصيبوا غنيمة تم لهم أجرهم
Muslim recorded it in "The Book of Governance," chapter on explaining the amount of reward for one who fights and gains spoils and one who does not, hadith no. 1906, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Yazid al-Muqri with this wording, and it is also found in Kubra, hadith no. 4333.
