A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking permission to go out for jihad.The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Are your parents alive?"He replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then strive in serving them."
أخبرنا محمد بن المثنى عن يحيى بن سعيد عن سفيان وشعبة قالا حدثنا حبيب بن أبي ثابت عن أبي العباس
جاء رجل إلى رسول الله ﷺ يستأذنه في الجهاد فقال أحي والداك قال نعم قال ففيهما فجاهد
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners, chapter "One should not engage in jihad except with the permission of one's parents," hadith no. 5972, from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed. Muslim narrated it in the Book of Kindness and Ties of Kinship, chapter on kindness to parents and which of them has more right to it, hadith no. 2549, from Muhammad bin Muthanna, from the hadith of Yahya Qattan, with the same chain. It is also found in Kubra, hadith no. 4311.
