A Jewish man said to Umar, "If this verse had been revealed to us, we would have taken its day as a festival, 'This day I have perfected your religion for you' [Maidah 5:3]."Umar replied, "I know the day on which it was revealed and the night on which it was revealed. It was the night of Friday, and we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Arafat."
أخبرنا إسحق بن إبراهيم قال أنبأنا عبد الله بن إدريس عن أبيه عن قيس بن مسلم
قال يهودي لعمر لو علينا نزلت هذه الآية لاتخذناه عيدا {اليوم أكملت لكم دينكم} قال عمر قد علمت اليوم الذي أنزلت فيه والليلة التي أنزلت ليلة الجمعة ونحن مع رسول الله ﷺ بعرفات
Muslim narrated it in the tafsir, no. 4/3017, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Idris, and Bukhari narrated it in the book of faith, in the chapter on the increase and decrease of faith, etc., no. 45, from the hadith of Qays bin Muslim, with the same wording.
