Jabir bin Abdullah was asked whether a man who catches sight of the House should raise his hands. He replied, "I never thought anyone did this except the Jews. We performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we never did it."
Its chain of transmission is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of the Rites, Chapter on Raising the Hand upon Seeing the House, Hadith 1870, from Muhammad bin Jafar's report, and it is also in al-Kubra, Hadith 3878.Muhajir Makki is of unknown reliability. Ibn Hibban alone rated him trustworthy, while Thawri, Ibn Mubarak, Ahmad, and others graded his narration daif. See Tahzib.
