The Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah during the Compensatory Umra with Ibn Rawaha walking in front of him, reciting,"Clear the way, sons of disbelievers, let him pass. Today we strike you over its true meaning, A blow that severs heads from their resting place, And makes a close friend forget his dearest friend."Umar said, "Ibn Rawaha, in the sacred precinct of Allah and before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ you recite such poetry?"The Prophet ﷺ said, "Let him be. By the One in whose hand is my soul, his words strike them harder than the falling of arrows."
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الملك بن زنجوية قال حدثنا عبد الرزاق قال حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان عن ثابت
دخل النبي ﷺ مكة في عمرة القضاء وابن رواحة بين يديه يقول خلوا بني الكفار عن سبيله اليوم نضربكم على تأويله ضربا يزيل الهام عن مقيله ويذهل الخليل عن خليله قال عمر يا ابن رواحة في حرم الله وبين يدي رسول الله ﷺ تقول هذا الشعر فقال النبي ﷺ خل عنه فوالذي نفسي بيده لكلامه أشد عليهم من وقع النبل
