My father set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of Hudaybiyah. His companions entered into ihram, but he did not. While I was with my companions, they began smiling at one another. I looked, and there was a wild donkey. I struck it down with my spear and asked them to help me, but they refused to assist. So we ate from its meat, but feared we might be cut off from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.I set out searching for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, at times urging my horse forward at full speed and at times riding at a steady pace. In the middle of the night I met a man from Ghifar and asked him, "Where did you leave the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He replied, "I left him taking his midday rest at Suqya."I caught up with him and said, "Messenger of Allah, your companions send you their greetings of peace and the mercy of Allah. They feared they might be cut off from you, so please wait for them."So he waited for them. Then I said, "Messenger of Allah, I caught a wild donkey and have some of its meat with me."He said to the people, "Eat," while they were in the state of ihram.
