I was sitting with Uthman when he heard Ali pronouncing the talbiyah for both an umrah and a hajj together.Uthman said, "Did we not used to forbid this?"Ali replied, "Yes, but I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pronounce the talbiyah for them both together, so I will not abandon the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for your words."
أخبرني عمران بن يزيد قال حدثنا عيسى وهو ابن يونس قال حدثنا الأعمش عن مسلم البطين عن علي بن حسين
كنت جالسا عند عثمان فسمع عليا يلبي بعمرة وحجة فقال ألم نكن ننهى عن هذا قال بلى ولكني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يلبي بهما جميعا فلم أدع قول رسول الله ﷺ لقولك

Bukhari transmitted it, no. 1563 (see the preceding hadith, no. 2718), from the hadith of Ali bin Husayn, with this same wording. It is also found in Kubra, no. 3702. In some manuscript copies, "Ashath" appears instead of "Amash," which is an error.
