The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "For one of you to gather a bundle of firewood on his back and sell it is better than asking another man, who may either give him something or refuse him."
أخبرنا أبو داود قال حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم قال حدثنا أبي عن صالح عن ابن شهاب أن أبا عبيد مولى عبد الرحمن بن أزهر أخبره أنه سمع
قال رسول الله ﷺ لأن يحتزم أحدكم حزمة حطب على ظهره فيبيعها خير من أن يسأل رجلا فيعطيه أو يمنعه
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Business Transactions, Chapter on a Man's Earnings and His Work with His Own Hand, no. 2074, and Muslim in the Book of Zakat, Chapter on the Dislike of Asking People, no. 107/1042, from the hadith of Ibn Shihab Zuhri through this chain, and it is in Al-Kubra, no. 2365.
