Qabisa said, "I undertook a financial responsibility on behalf of others, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asking him for help with it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Stay here, Qabisa, until the charity comes to us, then we will order something to be given to you."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Qabisa, asking for charity is not permitted except for one of three men. A man who has undertaken a financial responsibility on behalf of others, for him asking is permitted until he obtains what he needs, then he must stop. A man struck by a disaster that destroys his wealth, for him asking is permitted until he obtains enough to sustain himself, then he must stop. And a man stricken by such poverty that three sensible men of his people testify, 'So-and-so has been stricken by poverty,' for him asking is permitted until he obtains what he needs to sustain his life. Any asking other than this, Qabisa, is unlawful gain, and the one who takes it consumes what is forbidden."
