The Prophet ﷺ, and Amr said in his version, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he wanted to eat or sleep while in a state of major impurity, would perform ablution. Amr added in his narration, like his ablution for prayer.
أخبرنا حميد بن مسعدة عن سفيان بن حبيب عن شعبة ح و حدثنا عمرو بن علي قال حدثنا يحيى وعبد الرحمن عن شعبة عن الحكم عن إبراهيم عن الأسود
كان النبي ﷺ وقال عمرو كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا أراد أن يأكل أو ينام وهو جنب توضأ زاد عمرو في حديثه وضوءه للصلاة
Reported by Muslim, Menstruation, Chapter on the permissibility of a person in a state of major ritual impurity sleeping and the desirability of performing wudu before doing so, etc., no. 22/305, from the hadith of Shubah, transmitted through him. It is also found in Kubra, no. 252, 253.
