Abdullah bin Amr bin As reported,

My father arranged for me to marry a woman of noble lineage. He used to visit her and ask about her husband. She would say, "What an excellent man he is. Since we came to him, he has not approached our bed nor inspected our private quarters."He mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Bring him to me."So I went to him with my father.The Prophet ﷺ asked, "How do you fast?"I replied, "Every day."He said, "Fast three days each week."I said, "I am capable of more than that."He said, "Then fast two days and break your fast one day."I said, "I am capable of more than that."He said, "Then observe the best of fasting, the fast of Dawud , fasting one day and breaking fast the next."

أخبرنا محمد بن معمر قال حدثنا يحيى بن حماد قال حدثنا أبو عوانة عن مغيرة عن مجاهد قال

قال لي عبد الله بن عمرو

أنكحني أبي امرأة ذات حسب فكان يأتيها فيسألها عن بعلها فقالت نعم الرجل من رجل لم يطأ لنا فراشا ولم يفتش لنا كنفا منذ أتيناه فذكر ذلك للنبي ﷺ فقال ائتني به فأتيته معه فقال كيف تصوم قلت كل يوم قال صم من كل جمعة ثلاثة أيام قلت إني أطيق أفضل من ذلك قال صم يومين وأفطر يوما قال إني أطيق أفضل من ذلك قال صم أفضل الصيام صيام داود عليه السلام صوم يوم وفطر يوم
