The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever does not form the intention to fast before dawn has no fast."
أخبرنا عبد الملك بن شعيب بن الليث بن سعد قال حدثني أبي عن جدي قال حدثني يحيى بن أيوب عن عبد الله بن أبي بكر عن ابن شهاب عن سالم عن عبد الله
عن النبي ﷺ قال من لم يبيت الصيام قبل الفجر فلا صيام له
[Its chain is daif]. Abu Dawud narrated it in the chapter on the intention in fasting, no. 2454, from the hadith of Yahya bin Ayub with this wording. It is also found in Al-Kubra, no. 2641. Zuhri narrated it using "an" (indicating a possible break in transmission), as noted previously, no. 1207.
