An Arabi came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I sighted the crescent moon last night."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger?"The man replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Bilal, announce to the people that they should fast tomorrow."
أخبرنا موسى بن عبد الرحمن قال حدثنا حسين عن زائدة عن سماك عن عكرمة
جاء أعرابي إلى النبي ﷺ فقال أبصرت الهلال الليلة قال أتشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمدا عبده ورسوله قال نعم قال يا بلال أذن في الناس فليصوموا غدا
